Tesserae: Glass, marble, slate and pebbles

“My love for designing and crafting has always been there. While raising three children I rarely had time to follow my passions. But one thing I knew: One day I would give my creativity the appropriate room. As my daughters grew older, I gradually got more time and so I started out to experiment with all sorts of materials: from cake dough to fabric, from paper to wood and finally to concrete, glass, slate and marble. In earlier days I did a lot of patchwork and quilting and maybe that is where my passion for mosaic was born. To me it is fascinating, how little pieces put together result in a whole, which is more than the sum of its parts.

My designs are inspired by the different architectural epochs and by nature. They reflect my love of colour harmony and mix of material.
Why exactly I prefer to work with rigid materials such as glass, slate and marble, I don’t know. But when broken into tiny pieces and put back together the way I want it to, the material gets its own life. There is movement and deepness and even softness in my pieces.”
