Shug Jones transitioned from life as a professional painter to that of a mosaic artist in 2001 when she co-founded Tesserae Mosaic Studio, Inc. in Plano, Texas. In 2007, she won the award for Best Large Scale Exterior Mosaic at the Mosaic Arts International Exhibition (MAI) in Mesa, Arizona. In 2017, Shug is one of the jurors for the MAI in Detroit.
She has taught and exhibited internationally and her work, included in numerous books on mosaic and decorating, is also represented in private, public, healthcare, education, and hospitality collections. Shug and her creative partner, Julie Dilling, recently completed two projects for the Cancer Center at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas, Texas. Shug retired from large scale installation work in late 2016 and is now concentrating exclusively on her fine art mosaics under the name Shug Jones Mosaics.
